About Me

Meet Benji,

Benji is currently living in a foster home as he recovered from a leg amputation. He is now fully healed and ready to find his forever home!

Benji, also known as Buddy, “wags his tail with excitement when he is called Buddy,” so the more he wags, the more he goes by Buddy. This boy is as sweet as they come. He absolutely loves his people and wants to be around the family as much as possible. He is weary of new people, but once he knows he can trust them, he is very sweet and loves getting pets from his humans. His favorite spots and things to do are lounge with his humans, whether on the front porch together or in the living room. His presence in the house is very low, meaning he is very easy and not a high-maintenance dog in the house. His expected age is around two, but he has an old soul that shows in the house. Lots of naps in the area his people are is his ideal day. Although he is missing a leg, he gets around surprisingly well. He likes to go on short walks, but this may be more driven by wanting to be with his people rather than the walk itself. Buddy is house-trained and knows how to use a dog door, XL size dog door, of course. Buddy is also not destructive, having been left to roam the house while the people are gone; nothing has been chewed or ruined. To that point, a crate has not been used or needed, so how he would do in a crate is unknown but also unnecessary. Buddy currently lives with his Fosters, who have a toy Aussie and a Doberman. Buddy seems to do well with other dogs but could probably also be an only dog. So far, he doesn’t seem to care too much about cats either. Oh, and chickens, Buddy has no prey drive or reaction to chickens and turkeys as well. Finally, Buddy lives with an infant and has been around small kids, and he has never shown fear or aggression towards the children, his fosters, the staff at the humane society, and the vet. Buddy is very loyal and thrives on human affection from his people.

The ideal home for Buddy would be a place where his human/ humans are home most of the day. Although he goes up and down a few stairs on the front porch, a house with minimal, or no stairs would be ideal. Being left regularly and for extended periods, like the 9-5 job situation away from the home, would probably not be ideal, especially if he was an only dog. Buddy thrives with a pack “his humans” and gets a bit anxious when left alone. Because vehicles and unknown people can be a bit scary for him, a place away from any busy roads with lots of people and vehicle traffic would be best.
